Study findings showed that Heart problems in children with COVID-19 resolve within months.
According to the journal pediatric study published on thurday, heart problems in children hospitalized with COVID-19 typically resolve within a few months.
Two-thirds of the children passed a temporary decline in white blood cell rankings during their clinic stays, as well.
" It was both grueling and scary because we did not know how these cases would do long term, " studyco-authorDr. KanwalM. Farooqi said in a press release.
" It's a relief that this study shows that outside of the severe heart and immunologic externalizations we saw in children with MIS-C resolved fast, " said Farooqi, a pediatric cardiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's clinic in New York City.
Most of the 45 children included in the study were clear of their heart-related symptoms caused by a rare complication called multi-system inflammatory syndrome within four months, the data showed.
Before their recovery, most were critically ill and required intensive care. Nearly 80% had some type of heart dysfunction.
In addition, nearly half of the children had moderate to severe heart abnormalities, including decreased ability of the heart to pump properly, coronary artery dilation and leaking heart valves.
